The chloroplast: a model system for organellar biogenesis
23 - 24 May2013
A joint workshop with CUSO doctoral program in Molecular Plants Sciences
Flyer (48 Ko)
Speakers
- Prof. Michel Goldschmidt-Clermont, University of Geneva, Switzerland
- Prof. Paul Jarvis , University of Leicester, UK
- Prof. Danny J. Schnell , University of Massachusetts, USA
- Prof. Sam Zeeman , ETH Zürich, Switzerland
- Dr Philip Zimmermann , Nebion AG, Switzerland
- Dr Gaëtan Glauser , University of Neuchâtel, Switzerland
Objectives
The principle goal is to broaden the knowledge of the participating students on organellar biogenesis.
Content
Chloroplast biogenesis is a key developmental step towards photoautotrophic growth in plants. The monumental importance of the process is highlighted by dramatic changes in gene expression, protein composition and organelle morphology. For precisely these reasons the chloroplast is an excellent model system for organellar biogenesis.
During organized journal clubs and mini-workshops the students will have the opportunity to directly interact with internationally recognized scientists in cutting edge research areas. There will be the possibility to both discuss the latest developments in the literature, present your own data and to gather hands on experience in practical workshops.
The journal clubs and mini-workshops will cover the following areas
- Transcriptomics in chloroplast development (Philip Zimmermann)
- Lipidomics studies of chloroplast membrane systems (Gaétan Glauser)
- Chloroplast regulatory kinases and phosphatases (Michel Goldschmidt-Clermont
- Cell biology of choroplast development (protein import and proteasome regulation) (Danny Schnell and Paul Jarvis)
Relevant publications will be sent to the participants in advance.
