Open science: improving your research workflow to increase transparency and reproducibility
5 February 2018
Organiser: Dominique Roche
Objectives
Learn about the theory and practice of open science tools to promote transparent and credible research (e.g. preregistration, registered reports, blinding, data management, open notebook, replication, data and code sharing).
Speakers
- Dominique Roche, University of Neuchâtel, Center for Open Science ambassador
- Heidi Seibold, University of Zurich
- Luc Henry, EPF, Lausanne
- Anne Scheel, Eindhoven University of Technology, The Netherlands
- Xenia Schmalz, Ludwig-Maximillians University, Munich, Germany
Content and pre-course assignments
Dominique Roche will give an introductory talk on the reproducibility crisis and open science as a counter-movement to the mainstream high productivity, publish-or-perish approach to science.
Four invited speakers will then give 45-minute presentations on various topics related to open science and different tools available to carry out research in a more transparent way. The lectures will highlight the theory and practice (i.e. implementation) of these tools. The workshop will end with a panel discussion and question period.
Pre-course assignment:
The students will be asked to read two review/opinion papers of their choice on open science .
Suggested readings: PDF-1 and PDF-2
