Plant Metabolomics: from plant tissue to molecules

Two sessions, 20 and 27 May 2021

Venue: University of Neuchâtel

This is a 1-day workshop offered twice (on May 20 and 27) and with each session being limited to only 4 students. This setting will assure a high quality workshop in a covid-safely environment.

Wearing a mask the full day will (probably) be mandatory, in addition to wearing lab coats and glasses as required for the technical part of this workshop (see below).

We are hopeful that the workshop will happen, but, please, keep in mind that depending on the covid situation evolution, we might still be forced to postpone it. Thanks for your understanding.

Speakers

  • Dr. Gaétan Glauser, Senior scientist, MS and metabolomics unit, Neuchâtel Platform of Analytical Chemistry (NPAC), University of Neuchâtel
  • Dr. Emmanuel Defossez, Postdoc, Functional Ecology laboratory, University of Neuchâtel

Objectives

This practical short course intends to provide an overview of the different steps needed to perform mass spectrometry-based plant metabolomics. The course will take place in the laboratory and in computer rooms where participants will have the opportunity to become familiar with sample preparation, analysis by HPLC-MS, data processing, and compound identification.

Content

1. Generic sample preparation suitable for metabolomic analysis

2. Analysis by HPLC-high resolution mass spectrometry

3. Data processing using commercial and open-access solutions

4. Compound identification

During the course, participants must wear long pants and closed shoes since part of the course will take place in the lab. Lab coats and glasses will be provided if needed, however we encourage participants to bring their own material.
